Muscadet sur Lie, Dom Vieux Chais, France 2006 The Loire was the original home of sauvignon blanc, they just started making it better elsewhere, particularly New Zealand. Good Muscadet, though, is still difficult to beat for a crisp, dry white to drink by itself or with fish and seafood. |

Guigal Condrieu, France 2005 Condrieu is the home of the viognier grape and this is a classic example, floral yet full bodied, even unctuous on the palate. A lovely alternative for those bored with the usual suspects. |

Paul Autard Chateauneuf, Rhone Chateauneuf du Pape/France 2004/5 Yes, they do produce white wine in Chateauneuf du Pape and this is one of the top, to rival any white in the world. A steelier wine than the Condrieu it exhibits subtle, sophisticated minerality. Want a change from top chardonnay? Then try this or the Condrieu. |
